Qualifications: Master's degree (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field.
Job Descriptions: Perform research to characterize enzymes that facilitate the reduction of cell wall recalcitrance,
with the purpose of lowering the biomass processing costs and developing technology to produce cellulosic ethanol.
Assist in the design and supervision of experiments. Design biochemistry experiments and identify,
characterize and evaluate specific enzymes for their ability to modify the plant cell wall.
Perform functional studies of enzymes, including the detection of enzyme activity in transgenic plants.
Perform characterization studies of enzymes using parameters such as pH, temperature, and substrate specificity.
Introduce the cell wall modifying enzymes into plants. Evaluate the function of enzymes in transgenic plants at the molecular and biochemical levels.
Develop protein expression and purification systems and assays to measure protein activity, using SDS-PAGE and Western blotting.
Perform analysis of mutant protein function and carbohydrate analysis, using high performance liquid chromatography and ion chromatography.
Perform carbohydrate structure analysis using confocal and electron microscopy.Demonstrated ability with protein expression and analysis, including SDS-PAGE and Western blotting.
Demonstrated ability with protein extraction and purification. Demonstrated ability with high performance liquid chromatography and ion chromatography.
